Moving heavy equipment: flatbed or low-bed?

Excavators, loaders, generators and forklifts each need the right trailer. Here is how we choose between flatbed, low-bed and specialised configurations.

Moving heavy equipment: flatbed or low-bed?

Mobilising machinery to a new site is one of the most planning-heavy jobs in transport. The trailer has to suit the machine's weight, height and footprint, and the route has to suit the trailer.

Flatbed trailers

Flatbeds carry steel, pipes, structural materials and palletised cargo, and they are a good fit for lighter equipment such as forklifts and generators. Loading is straightforward and turnaround is quick.

Low-bed trailers

Low-bed trailers sit closer to the road, which keeps tall machinery like excavators and loaders within height limits. They are our standard choice for heavy equipment transfers and project site mobilisation.

Specialised configurations

Some loads do not fit either category. For those we configure specialised equipment on request, planned around the specific project.

Whatever the machine, we start with a requirement assessment covering the load, the route and the delivery window, then match it to the right prime mover and trailer.

Share the load, the route and the timing, and we'll plan the right trucks for it.
